The Hay Loft
ThE HAY LOFT
THE CONVERTED HAY LOFT PROVIDING A SELF CONTAINED ONE BEDROOM ONE BATH ACCOMMODATION WITH KITCHEN FACILITIES
The Hay Loft forms part of the original coach house stables complex that once served the Lord and Lady of the Manor. Built in the 19th century, the building was never for agricultural but rather an essential part of the estate’s day-to-day life, housing the carriages, horses, and equipment used for travel and estate duties.
Positioned above the main coach house and stables, the lofts were traditionally used to store hay and feed for the horses below, making it a vital link between the working stables and the genteel rhythm of country life. Its elevated position allowed easy access for stable hands, while the robust brick construction and timber framing reflected the quality and permanence expected of a manor outbuilding.
During restoration, the building’s original character was carefully preserved — from the exposed beams, lime washed brick walls and vaulted ceilings that tell the story of its former use. Subtle craftsmanship details, such as handmade ironwork and traditional joinery, remain in place as a testament to the skill and care that went into its creation.
Whilst its use no longer remains the same the essence of the stable building oozes from the furnishing picked to decorate the space. A hugely spacious one bedroom accommodation hidden away in this building yet surprising vast and spacious yet still feeling warm and cosy.
