Caretakers Cottage

ThE CARETAKERS COTTAGE

TWO BED (TWO BATH) COTTAGE WITH FULLY EQUIPPED KITCHEN AND SEPARATE LOUNGE

Once the residence of the Caretaker and his family this home sits apart from the main Georgian House yet is still well connected being a couple of courtyards away for ease of access. In 1911 a family of four lived here, the Caretaker and his wife who was a Maid, the son who was the footman for the main house and the young daughter who was still at school. Prior to this during the 1800’s the cottage was fully connected to the servants quarters and provided further living and working accommodation for the 9 staff they had in its height. The layout has remained untouched in many years and still retains its original form. We have recently restored the cottage back to its beauty, albeit slightly fancier, we are sure, from the staff accommodation it once was.

Have a browse through some of the photos of this quaint cottage. We were keen to retain and enhance all the character elements and add a slight modern touch where appropriate. Being the oldest building on the estate its estimated the front bay of this cottage dates back to around the 17th Century. With its timber frame evident in areas and the wattle and daub panels still in place in the attic area it does come with some beautiful character. Every room has retained its original fire making the spaces feel cosy and warm.
